Project Progress Review: Sri Mariamman Hall, Butterworth

Yesterday, YB Kumaran Krishnan, Commissioner of the Penang Hindu Endowments Board (PHEB), visited the ongoing upgrade works at Dewan Sri Mariamman, Butterworth — a long-awaited project by the local Indian community in Bagan and its surrounding areas.

The hall, a symbol of unity and cultural heritage, has reached about 70% completion. Despite minor weather-related delays, progress remains steady under close monitoring by PHEB to ensure quality and safety standards are met.

Originally targeted for completion by end-2025, the project is now expected to be fully operational by early 2026 to ensure top-notch workmanship. During the visit, YB Kumaran also met with vendors proposing the installation of a new LED screen system, aimed at enhancing the hall’s functionality for community events and ceremonies.

This initiative reflects the strong leadership of YB RSN Rayer, Jelutong, Chairman of PHEB, who emphasizes transparency, efficiency, and quality in every project involving Hindu endowment assets across Penang.

Once completed, the upgraded Sri Mariamman Hall will stand as a modern, comfortable, and proud landmark — a testament to the state government and PHEB’s commitment to empowering the community and strengthening social infrastructure.
