The Penang Hindu Endowments Board held the first coordination meeting for Thaipusam 2026 on 12 December at KOMTAR, chaired by YB RSN Rayer, Jelutong . Government agencies including PDRM, MBPP, BOMBA, RELA, JKN, JPS, PBA, GH and Rapid Penang, together with Malaysia Hindudharma Mamandram Penang and Malaysia Hindu Sangam Penang, discussed key preparations.
Crowd control at Jalan Utama and the Hilltop Temple steps remains a major focus. Hilltop TMC Chairman Mr Kumaratherveyam presented practical proposals to ease congestion, following a prior briefing with Malaysia Hindudharma Mamandram Penang. Issues raised included crowd flow at Hilltop, the Gottlieb Road junction, panthal congestion after 5pm, and improving kavadi movement.
To manage Jalan Utama, cooperation from panthal operators and chariot kavadi groups will be essential. PHEB and TMC will call for a joint meeting to align all parties.
With Penang expecting larger crowds due to the long weekend, early coordination is vital. PHEB is committed to ensuring smooth and safe chariot processions while preserving the festival’s spiritual significance.
Let us work together towards a harmonious Thaipusam 2026.
